Embark on a sacred journey of mystery and magic with Curandera, Mama Shabeta, and Chef Jessenia Mictlan in the serene landscapes of Playas de Rosarito. This retreat, an intimate embrace of the land that invites you to play, rest, and co-create relationships with plants, seeing them not just as flora, but as relatives, guides, and healers, echoing the profound wisdom of the land.
Within this sanctuary, Mama Shabeta invites womyn, womxn, and women into their Chingonisma. In ceremony, we will observe and harvest plant medicine, then watch their essence gently infuse into water, a practice that mirrors the clarity and simplicity we seek in our lives. This act becomes a metaphor for our journey back to the basics, to our center, where we learn to simplify our lives and selves, to peer inward and open up to the profound depths of both the plants and our own being.
Our retreat embraces anti-colonial practices, focusing on building relationships with plants as allies and medicine. Engage in plant walks to discover the native flora of Rosarito, delving into the roles these plants play in our lives beyond their physical attributes. The retreat places special emphasis on working with sacred plants like Tobacco, Corn Pollen, Coca, and Calamus, each carrying unique wisdom and healing properties.
Immerse yourself in the nurturing practices of meditative relaxation and tea baths, designed to attune you to the subtle essence of plant magic. This journey of slowing down, unwinding with music, dance, art, and storytelling to create a 'Playshop' atmosphere. Bring your bathing suits for flower steams and partake in the creation of oils for self-massage, enhancing your connection to your body's wisdom and set intentions for dreamwork to continue your connection with plant wisdom, even in slumber.
We are delighted to welcome Chef Jessenia Mictlan, a visionary, non-binary, Indigenous queer, and intersectional feminist, to our retreat. Chef Jessenia, who draws immense strength from a lineage of resilient CHINGONAS, has overcome numerous barriers to become a luminary and source of support as a culinary educator in Seattle, WA. Their culinary prowess and commitment greatly enhance our retreat, offering enriching culinary experiences that harmonize with our collective journey of reconnection with the Earth and our inner selves.
Chef Jessenia will also be offering a cooking demo where they will share the traditional process of nixtamalization of corn, teaching us how to transform it into delicious tortillas. This demonstration not only promises to be a delightful culinary experience but also beautifully complements the ceremony and themes embraced by Mama Shabeta. Through this immersive activity, participants will have the opportunity to engage hands-on in a practice that is deeply rooted in Indigenous traditions, enriching our understanding and appreciation of the ancestral knowledge and culinary heritage. Jessenia's story, marked by triumph and resilience, perfectly reflects the transformative journey we undertake in this retreat, making the act of creating tortillas from scratch a metaphor for our own process of renewal and growth.
This retreat is more than an exploration; it's a celebration of feminine power, an acknowledgment of our collective role in rebuilding, recreating, and remembering the essence of the feminine on our EarthWalk. Join Mama Shabeta and Chef Jessenia in this sacred space where mystery, magic, and the nurturing power of nature guide us back to the nature of our true selves and the profound connections that sustain and enrich our lives.

Hello my name is Shabeta {she/her}. I am a chingona chicana born in Albuquerque, NM. My most recent ancestors came from small ranching communities in Northern New Mexico. I was a free-range child who roamed the Mountain with a pure and open heart guided only by Spirit and the voice of the Wind. As an Elder, I have returned to this way of being and am inspired to share this gift with all my chingona sisters. I was given this beautiful Ashéninka name which translates to Mariposa or Butterfly from my partner Asheninka Mino who was raised in the Central jungle of Peru by a family of healers. He has passed on to me through 17 years of translating for him the healing uses of Sacred Tobacco. My ever growing relationship with Tobacco has taught me to trust my inner knowing - intuition and Sacred Imagination. I am now guided to share these teachings with the people who love and respect the feminine Nature. My goal for the workshop is to clear all congested energies that have accumulated by your own stories of Life experiences that block your evolution. I will share with you techniques through meditation, art, Plant walks and Talks for clearing Mind, Emotion, Body & Spirit so you can find your connection to our ancestors who guide us to the Universal Light Force so that we can experience the rest of our lives as free, transformed and empowered Chigona chicanas. www.shabeta.com
